I got through midterm week!! Woohoo!! And the best thing? I actually kept my cool and didn’t panic this time around. I learned from last year’s midterm meltdown that I needed to make some changes if I wanted to stay sane and focused.
Here’s what you need to do to conquer m i d t e r m season:
1. Book work off– I know this seems obvious, but GIRL. If you’re like me who works at an office and can’t easily take time off, make sure you ask your co-worker and your boss if you can TAKE TIME OFF!!
Even if you think you’re good at multi-tasking, trust me, you’re better off actually setting time apart to study. You will thank yourself later!
2. Do things that relax you– I know, you’re a busy bee, and the LAST thing you need right now is to watch Netflix, clean the apartment, or watch Superbowl with your family.
It doesn’t seem like you’ve “earned” time off to enjoy yourself, but taking time off will actually help ease that burnt out, anxious feeling.
Take me, for example. I spent 4 hours with my cousins this Sunday despite having 2 deadlines for Monday. I also binged watched Scandal on Monday night (for about 2.5 hours), despite having an exam on Tuesday. I slept around 2 a.m on those nights, but I felt much more accomplished because I did something other than bury my head in a book.
3. Create a study area at home– Settle in wherever you feel most comfortable. I basically hijacked the bedroom and had all my paperwork scattered on the bed. I liked studying there because it was quiet!
4. Chill the f*ck out– Let’s say you still don’t feel 100% after doing your best. You need to stay calm. I repeat, DO NOT FREAK OUT. Fake the confidence. You’ll be able to focus better when you’re calmed down.. and you’ll trick your brain into thinking it knows more than it actually does 😉
